That goes from one fork leg to the other.Looks a little bit like a super cheap fork brace. What if anything does it do?I want to put a big front tyre on.But to do that it,and the fender will have to go.I will put a high fender on.Can i take it off and not worry about it?Cheers Peter.

I checked out an R100GS PD yesterday.
Sadly much of the aluminium work had corroded slightly.

Worst were the wheel hubs, that were greyish from aluminium oxide.

Is this a common problem for these models?

According to the documents the bike was a 1996 model and had covered 33000 km.

Also the documents stated that the bike was from 1996.
I thought that the last R100GS PD was the "black and crome" classic from 1995, but this one was Red and white. Did BMW produce the R100GS-PD on special order after 1995?

It has decals just like this one:

and not like this one:

I guess the older version is the one with DAKAR in writing, and the newer one is that with PD in writing, or?

I have taken a few mileage readings at the pump and have come up with an average of 50mpg (48-52).

This is on my XR650L with a main jet of 158 and a pilot of 55. K&N filter and stock exhaust. I am running Conti Twinduros which I must say have excellent grip in tight bends although I have never really ridden hard in the wet. They are quite noisy though and I think I might get some Distanzias next. MPG may improve with these as well.
This is riding at various speeds with some hard excelerations now and then mainly on A roads.

Looking for a new exhaust system next and a Clarke tank if any one has one!.

Hi all, I'm looking at getting an mp3 player for tunes on the move, I currently have a little 2gb sony which is good, but crave more memory (say 16gb) but have a small budget (not ipod size, so £75- £100 more the mark) I will only really use it on 2 wheels, so what are people using and how have they found it.
Don't want it too bulky but sound quality, batt life and screen (doesn't need to be big but want to be able to wok out my choices)
I've been on the review sites and no clear winner, and not sure about a lot of the new makes (if they are good or bad etc)
Not really my area (electronics) as prefer moving parts:p so all help appreciated.

I've takem my luggage rack off and looking to refit the little lift handle onto the rear plate, altough dispite trying every angle I can't see how the little 's' shaped piece fits onto any original holes, and doesn't appear to line up with any 2! anyone got any ideas or pictures in situ, I can take a couple of pics of the handle if it helps:thumbup:
Looking at the handle it does have signs of wear/ use so I'm guessing has been on at some point (it came in a bag of goodies from the last owner)

Honda has launched re-badged off-road bikes for 2011 bys inviting riders to test its repainted line-up at the Mick Extance Off-Road Experience.

For 2011, Honda is giving both the updated CRF450R and CRF250R bikes new graphics, as well as making the off-road machines comply with the latest FIM noise regulations in Europe. They will have new ECU mapping and a narrower throttle body.

The CRF450R has had a number of updates including improved throttle response, quicker hook-up to the HRC fuel-injection tool and an auto-decompressor system for the liquid-cooled motor to aid kick-starting. The chassis has also had updated forks and rear shock.

Honda clams the CRF250R received a full model revision with an advanced fuel-injection system derived from the 450R, new engine parts, valve springs, higher compression and a larger radiator. The updated motor was mated to a new frame and longer swingarm for increased traction.

The 149cc four-stroke CRF150R will also comply with the new FIM noise regulation. The CRF150R further comes in a big-wheel version, the CRF150RB, for more experienced riders and off-road competition.

Availability
The CRF450R will be available in October, with the CRF250R a month later in November. Their enduro-inspired relatives, the CRF250X and CRF450X receive new graphics for 2011, although no technical updates.

Both the 250 and 450X CRF current models are available now, with the updated graphics 2011 model available in December. Prices are yet to be announced, but will be in line with the existing models.

Youngsters
For younger riders the CRF50F, 70F and 100F offer the best start in the world of off-road. Both the 50cc and 70cc CRFs offer light weight with distinctive red and white graphics, as well as a single-cylinder motor with a three-speed automatic gearbox.

The CRF100F has a 100cc four-stroke motor with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Mick Extance
Honda says Mick is the most successful British Dakar rider of recent years and has a long history of excellence in all forms of off-road competition. The former British Enduro Class Champ has now retired from international events. His Off-Road Experience currently runs CRF100F and CRF150Rs, as well as both 250 and 450 R and X model Hondas.

Hi all, My name is George Guille I am just back in the UK after 13months on my RD07A Riding from here in the Channel Islands down to Australia,...

Hi all, My name is George Guille I am just back in the UK after 13months on my RD07A Riding from here in the Channel Islands down to Australia, almost exactly 30'000miles. About 6 or 7 months ago I contacted Don Richardson at RICOR with regards their new Intiminator fork valves for the Africa Twin and their rear shock that they are currently developing. As a result of that I happily agreed to fit my bike with their fork valves as a long term test. Don sent me two sets with different tunes, one soft and one firm as well as a set of shims so I could fine tune them for me.

One thing I have found on the Africa Twin which is only heighted when the bike is used as an overlander and loaded up with 50kg of gear, is that the front end will dive so much that it will totally upset the running of the bike when riding, particularly if you are starting to push it a bit, say in the Alps for example.

Before I left I tried to get around this by fitting progressive springs from White Power. They helped a lot but I was still not happy. Once in Switzerland I removed the White Power supplied preload spacers (15mm) and had a new set of alloy preload spacers made up this time 45mm. At last the bike would handle properly! Giving the GSXR's a run for their money up the grimzel pass fully loaded and a set of tyres on the back proved that.

Fast forward a couple of thousand km’s and now in Pakistan when the roads start to get a bit more bumpy, pot holes all over the place and the Karakorum highway is being dug up by the Chinese and in terrible condition. Here my front forks are now too stiff to soak up the impacts. I tell myself that this is just something I have to live with, a compromise for the improved road handling and watch my brother disappearing off into the distance on his KTM 640adv.

With everything agreed Don sent out the two different tunes to Bangkok in Thailand. Due to most of the roads in South East Asia being sealed I decided to fit the firmer tune Intiminators first. As you see from the instructions the installation of the fork valves really couldn’t be simpler. Remove the wheel with the bike on the main stand, drop out the forks from the triple clamps. Remove the cap on top of the forks and remove the springs and pour out the old fork oil. I flushed the forks a few times with a cleaner then refilled with 5W fork oil and reinstalled the springs and put it all back together easily all done in under an hour.
Excited to give them a test I took the bike straight out for a ride. To my amazement due to the way that they work my forks were FIRMER than with the progressive springs and 3x the normal preload spacers! Riding back into Bangkok I made an effort to hit any lip, bump or ruff surface. The result is a little odd at first...I could hardly feel them!
Down in Malaysia I took a couple days off roading still with my luggage and the front end was handling it just amazing, so much better than with my previous arrangement.
So as a result of installing the Intiminators I had an even firmer front end that was also much softer and able to soak up much larger impacts than before!

After 2 months with the firmer tune Intiminator in the bike when in Kuala Lumpur I fitted the softer tune Intiminator that Don had sent me. My next country was going to be Indonesia, worse roads and worse drivers...lots of emergency braking! I was also eager to leave the main sealed roads and explore some of the last jungle and wilderness in the world.
The softer tune was a big difference at first I didn’t like it, like it had been before without the Intiminators. However as soon as I stated to hit the rougher roads and pot holes I just couldn’t believe how much the front end was soaking up. It was starting to get silly when I began to purposely aim for the largest pot hole I could find just so I could watch how fast the forks react!
Riding along side the KTM640 was a great comparison, that bike has great suspension, what you would normally consider call far superior than the Africa Twin stock suspension. Now an odd things happened I started to leave the 640 behind! The rougher it got the better the inertia valves worked and the more I would leave the 640 behind.

In conclusion I am going to keep the Intiminator in the bike as I carry on around the world via South America, North America, Russia, East and West Africa until I get back to Europe.

If I had known of the RICOR Intiminators when doing the preparation of my bike, I would have without question spent my money on the Intiminator instead of the progressive springs. (The Intiminator are designed to and do work best with the stock springs)
Why try and sort out the front suspension by spending money on new fork springs and not really get it right, instead I fully recommend to spend the extra on a set of Intiminators, you will not regret it.

I rate the 3 best things I have done for my bike to be my custom made seat, big windscreen and the RICOR Intiminator fork valves.

I can't wait for their rear shock to become avliable as I will be next modification I do to the bike.

I hope this has been of help

George

Just recently my Dommie has started vibrating alot more. It does make more noise I'd say but that is difficut to guage, definitley my feet are more prone to getting a bit dead after 250 miles on the road.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be? tyres are fine, oil al recently changed, lubed and greased as it should be, no apparent suspension issues. No increased engine noise when stationary as far as I can tell.

Hello everyone!!! It's been a while since I registered in this forum and as a new AT owner I need some answers to a few queries I have.

I have read a lot of threads but haven't come to a conclusion about which is the best way to keep the countershaft splines in good condition, lube or loctite? One thing I know for sure is I am going to put an oe sprocket on it...

As I have written in the new members section, I previously owned an xtz750. I have an electrex spare r/r ( rr98 )left from it and I would like to ask you if I can modify the adapters to fit my AT and keep it as a spare?

Thank you all in advance!!!:thumb:

Unfortunately the CB has to go to fund my intended next bike. Which wont dissapoint the wife as she hates me on it.. says I looks silly. If you know these bikes you will know how good they are, if you dont its a superb little engine that has more go than you could ever expect. It is as capable on a motorway as it is around town and a country road. Phenominal reliability and a great winter hack. I do enjoy every minute of riding it.. it is one of the only bikes to make me laugh when riding it. The only down side for me is my knee (cruciate surgery) does ache on it after a few hours of riding.. guess I will never own a Blade:rolleyes:
It has near 27k miles on it and is in pretty good condition. Definately no nasty noises or rattles as CBs are known for 100k miles without fault
Good tyres and nearly new chain and sprockets
New Delkevic can that sounds fabulous, without being loud
